90 points in US Wine Spectator! X 2

Glen Carlou was delighted to hear that America’s Wine Spectator magazine rated two of our wines at 90 points in its March 4 Insider edition. David Finlayson, CEO & Cellar Master said , “We are very proud of the ratings received in Wine Spectator for the Gravel Quarry 2006 and the Grand Classique 2005 as they underwrite and award the fruit forward, yet complex style of wines that Glen Carlou produces today. We believe that our standing as a producer of premium quality South African wines is further enhanced with International acclaim of this nature”.

The 2005 Grand Classique is available from the farm, as well as limited quantities of 2006 Gravel Quarry.

Below are the descriptors in the Wine Spectator, Insider:-
Cabernet Sauvignon Paarl Gravel Quarry 2006 – 90 points
A ripe, muscular style, with dark currant, cocoa powder and fig sauce notes laid over a broad, fleshy frame. The solid finish lets the fruit linger over a loamy note. Cuts a broad swath. Drink now through 2011. – James Molesworth

Grand Classique Paarl 2005 – 90 points
A dark, winey version, with solid grip to the macerated black currant, fig sauce and espresso notes that pump through the finish, where a nice hint of iron lingers. Rock-solid. Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2011. – James Molesworth

Harvest 2009 Begins at Glen Carlou

The 2009 harvest has started with a bang at Glen Carlou!
On Wednesday 28th January our first load of Chardonnay grapes arrived, four days later than the 2008 harvest.
The winemakers are impressed with the quality and flavours of the grapes. The cooler weather proves for ideal conditions and makes it much easier in the cellar. So far, Sauvingon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir have been crushed. The Chardonnay is already in barrel fermenting away with the wonderful smells permeating from the cellar into the tasting room.
As Arco says, " it is a double thumbs up so far for harvest 2009!" "Outstanding potential" says Cellar Master and CEO David Finlayson.
We will keep you posted as we progress through the harvest.

Welcome to the Glen Carlou Blog!

We often hear at wine shows from the diehard Glen Carlou fans, “we’ve been drinking your wines for years but we have never been to the farm”. Well as we would still love for you to visit us, circumstances do not make this possible with many of our customers living abroad, hence we are launching the Glen Carlou Blog! We trust you will find the tours through the vineyards and cellar both educational and entertaining.

The Blog's main aim is to let you in on the happenings in and around Glen Carlou's cellar and vineyards throughout the year as well as keep you up to date on our news and doings, and other interesting pieces about the wonderful wine industry we work in.

Your posted comments, questions and experiences will be valued and we will respond as soon as possible

Cheers,
Georgie
